Buddy Holly Pilgrimage

During one of our off weeks this summer, Johnny McGowan and I decided to drive north west and visit the Buddy Holly statue in Lubbock, TX and Norman Petty Recording Studio in Clovis, NM. Check out the pics on the “Media” tab.

Buddy Holly was born in Lubbock, TX and in February 1957, Holly and his new band The Crickets drove west to Clovis, NM and recorded their first single, ”That’ll Be the Day” at Norman Petty’s studio which reached #1 on the Billboard chart in September of 1957.

This recording changed rock and roll history and influenced Paul McCartney and John Lennon to change their band name to The Beatles. We drove up the same roads Buddy would have driven to get to the studio in Clovis, NM. It was a prizewinning journey for the Rugged Gents. Champions!!
